Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW)
Background of the Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW)
During one week each November, GEW (hosted by GEN) inspires people everywhere through local, national and global activities designed to help them take the next step in their entrepreneurial journey. These activities, from large-scale competitions and events to intimate network gatherings, connect participants to potential collaborators, mentors and even investors — introducing them to new possibilities and exciting opportunities. Global Entrepreneurship Week is not one single event —it is tens of thousands of events, activities and competitions across more than 170 countries.
GEW first entered Switzerland in 2010 in Geneva with one event. In 2018, GEW hosted over 50 individual events involving ca. 3500 individuals in Geneva in one week alone.
By fostering deeper cross border collaboration and initiatives between entrepreneurs, investors, researchers, policymakers and entrepreneurial support organizations, GEN works to fuel healthier start and scale ecosystems that create jobs, educate individuals, accelerate innovation and strengthen economic growth. GEN has a long track record in running relevant and impactful research.
Inaugurated as a Swiss association in 2017 GEN-Switzerland is the Swiss chapter of GEN-Global, domiciled in Solothurn. Its mission is to (1) help build and support a collaborative and dynamic ecosystem of entrepreneurs, investors, academia, civil society, media and politics in Switzerland and (2) establish a bridge between the Swiss ecosystem of entrepreneurs and the global network active in GEN-Global.
Expanding GEW from Geneva to other cities in Switzerland in 2019
Based on the success of GEW in Geneva in the past years, we will bring GEW to Basel and Zurich. We will begin this year with a series of events in both cities and plan to scale the activities similarly to the success story in Geneva.
